About Charged Up
Health and fitness have been huge parts of my life since I started working at a gym in 2016. I fell head over heels in love with the crew and community there.
It took awhile, but I slowly began to notice a few problematic things not necessarily at my gym, but with the fitness industry at large: pervasive body shame, disordered thinking around food, and an overall mindset that “fit and healthy” looks a certain way. I accepted all of these things as normal, even admirable, for a long time. As someone who grew up in a larger body, it was easy to fit these narratives into my own personal story. So, I strived to “achieve fitness.” And I did!
But…I also achieved disordered thoughts and behaviors around food and training, eventually putting myself into a dangerous cycle of undereating and overtraining. I certainly looked healthy. I realized, probably during fasted cardio, that “looking healthy” was clearly not the same as being healthy. I started to do my research.
The more I learned, the wearier I became with the narratives casually accepted by many in the fitness community. And the more people I found with experiences very similar to my own. Now, this isn’t to say that we should all forsake our nutrition and fitness goals. I personally train and eat to build muscle and shape my body. There’s absolutely no shame in that. I’m just saying it’s certainly not the only way to live. I want to create a space where all bodies and goals are welcome—a community centered around treating your body with kindness, nourishment, and gratitude.
And so my philosophy is this: whatever your goals are, I’m here to help. I’m all about you feeling your absolute best. Fueled, powerful, Charged Up.
